Do You Need an Over/Under Shotgun

Posted 09-09-10 at 11:56 AM by SLaMascus

I have been asked many times why an over-under shotgun is superior to a pump or semi-auto. In all honesty I can't think of any earthshaking reasons. I shoot over-and-unders (O/U). I also shoot side-by-sides (S/S). On the other hand two of my favorite shotguns are an old Winchester Model 12 in 16-gauge, and a well used Browning BPS 12-gauge.

It is true that an O/U or S/S is shorter than pumps or autos of equal barrel length, because they do not have the 3 or 4 inches of action that...

The Big 3 Retrievers

Posted 09-06-10 at 08:55 AM by cmoore

Last duck season I hunted with all of the Big 3 Retrievers: Labs, Goldens and of course my Chesapeake. I made a few observations...

Lately the Boy Scouts have been under fire for being exclusionary. They are an evil organization, we're told, because they won't allow child molesters and cross...

Care and Feeding of 2-Holers

Posted 09-01-10 at 04:22 PM by SLaMascus

Double barreled shotguns, whether side-by-side (SxS) or over-and-under (O/U) are becoming more and more popular with the intelligentsia of the shooting community. There are a number of very good reasons why, but we won't go into that now, except for one – that is, it is obvious to everyone when a break-action shotgun is unloaded and safe, and it is much easier to make a break-action safe than it is a pump or auto. A double, broken and hanging over a shooter's shoulder is safe for the world to see....

They're watching YOU

Posted 08-25-10 at 06:52 AM by cmoore

Ever felt like something is watching you out in the woods?

Admit it on the way to the deer stand in the early morning or heading back to your vehicle you sometimes get chills up and down your spine.

I snapped a photo of one of these watchers hidden in the tall grass, eyes focused with great intensity.

Maybe those chills are justified after all...
